About John Studebaker — and how we arrived at Gracie
Jo Anne and I first became acquainted with Samoyeds about 40 years ago, when our ten-year-old daughter Susan wanted a dog.  After much research on her part, we decided on a Sammy.  We had seen an ad in the Kalamazoo Gazette from someone trying to find a home for a three-year-old female, named Yena Tuva.  We fell in love with the breed at that time.

Susan then decided she wanted a dog she could show, so we bought a bitch from Joan Lueck out of Ch. Silver Acres Ivan.  The kids had fun showing Oakwood Farms Natasha until sports and school activities put dog-showing in last place in their lives.  Then I took over showing Tasha to her championship.  This was a natural for me, as I had grown up showing cattle in 4-H.

Our first litter was out of Natasha, and produced Ch. Windy Ridge Kip’ta Kolo.  From his lineage came Ch. Windy Ridge Rocky Mtn’ High, who was ranked 2nd in the late 80’s.  After several more generations we bred Ch. Windy Ridge Starlight Express, who won several specialties, an Award of Merit at the SCA National and was the top ranked bitch and 2nd overall in Samoyeds in the early 90’s.  From Star’s lineage eventually came Ch. Windy Ridge Tula.  Tula produced Windy Ridge Amazing Grace, who is presently sharing our home and bed with us.  Gracie won Bob in her first outing at 6 months, over 26 Samoyeds and 3 champions, now has 14 points and should finish as soon as we can find time, with my judging, our traveling, and other activities to again get her in the show ring.  Altogether, from Natasha to Gracie, we have bred 8 generations.

My professsional career was spent in the animal health and seed business, where I was president of the American Seed Trade Association.

I am a past president of the Kalamazoo Kennel Club, a delegate to the AKC, representing the Battle Creek Kennel Club, and a past president of the AKC Canine Health Foundation.
